My voice

When You Believe

Posted in Inspiration, faith, music by Linda on October 22, 2009

I just realized that I haven’t been posting any music on my blog for a very long time – not good. Here’s a song I heard on the radio while driving home yesterday. It’s a song that has been an inspiration to me ever since the first day I heard it.

It has a beautiful message.

Congratulations!

Today I just have to send a double congratulation to all my fellow county men and women out there. Not only is it Norway’s Constitution Day – the day we celebrate the independence and freedom of our beloved country, but yesterday “we” even won the Eurovision Song Contest through Alexander Rybak and his song Fairytale. How about that! I’d say it was good timing – and surely it added a special touch to the traditional May 17 celebration :)

In case you missed it, here’s the song

So am I happy then? Sure, it’s fun to be on the winning side. And it is a cool and catchy tune. However, I also had another favorite; What if We performed by Chiara, Malta. Take a moment and listen, it’s a beautiful song that deserves a few seconds of our time.

“There will be a star, no matter how far, shining”

More Musical Memories

Posted in Inspiration, music by Linda on April 25, 2009

As much as I enjoy listening to the music of today, there was something almost magical about the musical era of the 80’s. It was a good time to be a teenager. And one of many good memories from those days is how I always used to listen to Radio Luxembourg late at night. No matter where I went I had to keep my radio close so that I could keep up this ritual. The quality of the transmission would tend to vary, causing the music to drift in and out a bit, but that didn’t really bother me. In a way, it only added to the charm ;)

This song I remember well, and it really brings back that special feeling. Its lyrics are truly beautiful. If you are lucky enough to have a real good friend, someone you know will stand by you through every twist and turn in life, then play this song for them. Do it today. There’s nothing quite as valuable in life as true friends.

I Have a Dream

Found a handful of nostalgic Youtube clips that I’d like to share, and here’s the first one. As a young girl I was quite fond of Abba’s music, and this song was one of my absolute favorites back then. I remember being touched by its lyrics, and I still am. These words really say it all; if we keep the ability to see the wonders in life, then we can take most any challenge that may come our way.

Furry Funny Fellows

My youngest is a bit concerned about monsters.. I mean, how can he really be sure there isn’t one inside his closet? So I showed him this video .. to take away his worries. After all, everyone deserves to be happy – even monsters! :)

Enjoy the weekend

Someday Soon

Posted in music by Linda on February 6, 2009

I know I’ve been posting quite a few videos lately. But I just couldn’t resist this one. I totally fell in love with her voice the first time I heard it. And I think this song truly brings out its beauty, – especially at the beginning, so soft.. Each time the song ends I have to play it again.. and again.. I’ll probably have to stay up late tonight – again..

Merry Christmas

The Prayer

Posted in faith, music by Linda on December 22, 2008

I promise, this is the last one. But I just had to include it, – I find it amazingly beautiful, the kind of song that sticks to my mind and won’t go away.. And maybe that is just what we should keep in mind, with Christmas being only two days away: A prayer.

I mean, regardless of what our approach towards life may be, – how can that be wrong?

My apologies for the poor quality. Obviously, the sound was a lot better than this. I’m afraid you will just have to use your imagination a little ;)

An Early Christmas Gift

Posted in faith, music by Linda on December 18, 2008

My parents gave me an early Christmas present this year; a ticket to Peter Jöback’s Christmas concert in Oslo. I was very happy to receive it, and the concert was good. However, though there were many great Christmas songs, this is the one that touched me the most. It’s Gethsemane from the Jesus Christ Superstar musical.
We tend to forget, don’t we, what Christmas is really all about. The birth of Christ, yes – but as magic and wonderful as the nativity story is, it’s just the beginning. The story of his birth, his life – and death – must be seen as a whole. A thought that naturally leads us to this song, even though not traditionally associated with Christmas.

I’ve heard the songs from this musical before. Still, being there – hearing it live – that was powerful. And I admit; by the end of the song, my eyes were certainly not dry.

Strange isn’t it, how music can hurt – and still make you feel good.
