An Early Christmas Gift

Posted in faith, music by Linda on December 18, 2008

My parents gave me an early Christmas present this year; a ticket to Peter Jöback’s Christmas concert in Oslo. I was very happy to receive it, and the concert was good. However, though there were many great Christmas songs, this is the one that touched me the most. It’s Gethsemane from the Jesus Christ Superstar musical.
We tend to forget, don’t we, what Christmas is really all about. The birth of Christ, yes – but as magic and wonderful as the nativity story is, it’s just the beginning. The story of his birth, his life – and death – must be seen as a whole. A thought that naturally leads us to this song, even though not traditionally associated with Christmas.

I’ve heard the songs from this musical before. Still, being there – hearing it live – that was powerful. And I admit; by the end of the song, my eyes were certainly not dry.

Strange isn’t it, how music can hurt – and still make you feel good.

Snowy Village

village-1

Inspired by the falling wordpress snow, I found these pictures from one of our traditional Christmas activities; designing and building the Snowy Village. The design and size of the village tend to vary some from one year to another, but the kids always have a lot of fun building it. Not to forget – when Christmas is over – getting to play with it until it’s literally unrecognizable!

My personal favorite. Can you blame me for having a soft spot for that piglet? ;)
